Blue Cocoon #1, Hong Kong - 2008

Cocoons

Once a practice throughout Asia, Hong Kong is the final stronghold of the bamboo scaffolders.  Caged in bamboo up to 80 stories durning renovation, then covered in different colored material to eliminate debris falling to the ground.  The title "Cocoon" for the body of work was a natural choice.  The framework; a metamorphosis; like caterpillars to butterflies.  Colored material unveiled ceremoniously reveals a brand new facade, as in a cocoon revealing itself for the first time.  Photographed first in 1994 and 1995, this idea became a full time project in 2007 when relocating to Hong Kong from Vietnam.  It was published by Powerhouse Books January 2019.
